OHTSU KAZUYUKI
Woodblock
Born in Gunma Prefecture in 1935, Ohtsu Kazuyukiu moved to Tokyo in 1954 to learn the traditional method of carving and hand pulling woodblock prints.
In 1958, he became an assistant to the artist who is arguably Japan’s greatest woodblock artist of the Sosaku Hanga or Creative Print Movement, Kiyoshi Saito. Ohtsu-san remained with Saito-san until his death in 1997.
Ohtsu-san has exhibited in many shows and are widely collected for their charm and superb mastery of technique.
